Issue 6, Spring 2011 In France, the French National Railroads apologized to Holocaust survivors for the first time. International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27, 2011, was marked by an announcement by the French National Railways of an official apology to survivors of the Holocaust and their families. "In the name of the company, I bow down before the victims, the survivors and the children of those who were sent to the camps, and in the face of their suffering which is still not over," said the director of the company in a ceremony in a railroad station in suburban Paris.
Haaretz reported that the apology by the French railways came about under the pressure of American attorneys and survivors.
