 HGR Academic Programs Issue 2
Are you interested in studying for a degree in  Holocaust and Genocide Studies?

University Level Programs in Holocaust and Genocide Studies

The number of academic degree and teaching programs offered in the interdisciplinary field of Holocaust and Genocide Studies is growing throughout the world.
GPN Genocide Prevention Now will regularly present profiles of individual programs so that students interested in pursuing this field will be able to further understand their options for study.  With this issue, GPN adds the Holocaust Studies Program at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington to our Directory that appeared in Issue 1. Programs in Holocaust and Genocide Studies range from the only Ph.D. at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, to various MA programs, undergraduate degrees, minors, concentrations within degree programs, graduate certificate programs, and an online program.

Note also that many universities and colleges have degree programs such as History, Political Science, and International Relations that allow students to choose a specialty in the area of Holocaust or genocide although there are no formal degrees offered in the fields of Holocaust and Genocide Studies.  We are prepared to note such programs and/or professors who agree to identify themselves as welcoming dissertations on  Holocaust/genocide.

GPN
is also in the process of setting up a Repository of Courses in Holocaust and Genocide Studies which will include course descriptions and links to syllabi to assist people at universities and colleges who are interested in developing courses in Holocaust and Genocide studies at their institution.

We are interested in receiving information about additional university and college level programs in Holocaust and Genocide Studies that do not appear in this Directory. We also invite readers to submit information, descriptions of individual courses and syllabi at universities and colleges in Holocaust and Genocide Studies that do not support full degree programs for
GPN to include in the Repository of Courses in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.  Our aim is to build a full directory of programs as well as courses in our field to better inform students who choose to study the field of Holocaust and Genocide Studies. All submissions should be sent to: Marc I. Sherman, Director, Holocaust and Genocide Review, GPN Genocide Prevention Now. E-mail: msherman.gpn@genocidepreventionnow.org

For issue 2 of GPN, we are happy to profile the Ph.D. program offered through the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts.  We would like to thank Prof. Deborah Dwork, Rose Professor of Holocaust History and Director, Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies And Dr. Mary Jane Rein, Executive Director of the Strassler Center.

Genocide and its prevention stand at the core of the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Clark University. The first and only institute of its kind, the Strassler Center is home to a uniquely rich undergraduate program and a landmark doctoral program in Holocaust History and Genocide Studies. Tragically, this initiative is all too urgent as genocidal regimes continue to operate in the 21st century.
