Sri Lanka: Report of Ongoing Genocide against Tamils

Issue 8, Winter 2011 Letter to the Editor
On August 4, GPN, along with a variety of human rights organizations, scholars and press outlets, received an email about "Genocide against Tamils." We are reproducing here a small sample of the material that was sent with respectful attention to the reports that genocidal massacres may be continuing against the Tamil in Sri Lanka as they have in the past. The letter to GPN consists of photos, Youtubes, and the following text which is reproduced exactly as it was received:
Submission to GPN of a Report of Ongoing Genocide: Sri Lanka
More than 300,000 Tamil men, women and children estimated Killed or Disappeared
More that 35,000 Tamils estimated killed in the year 2009 alone
1.1 Million Tamils made to flee the country
More than 600,000 Tamil Internal Refugees (Internally Displaced or Evicted)
More than 20,000 Tamil orphaned children
More than 35,000 Tamil widows
Thousands of families (including infants) kept behind barbed wire fenced internment camps operated by Sri Lankan Military, for several months in aftermath of the war.
Half a million Tamils kept under military rule in Jaffna peninsula (Northern Sri Lanka) that had been described as an "open prison".
Thousands in custody – detention without trial, other widespread abuses
Economic embargo imposed on traditional Tamil areas for more than 2 decades
Supply of food, medicine, fuel, electricity and other essential items controlled by the Military
Forced Starvation
Usage of banned weapons - Cluster bombs, White phosporous. Usage of heavy weapons, artillery on densely populated civilian areas. Reported usage of chemical weapons.
Mass Graves and systematic violations of fundamental human rights remain uninvestigated
No International Media allowed into conflict areas
State sponsored pogroms
Systematic destruction of Infrastructure
Indiscriminate and wanton air attacks on traditional Tamil areas for more than 2 decades.
Hundreds of thousands of livelyhoods and schools, hospitals, libraries, temples, churches, houses, villages destroyed.
Sri Lanka's president and its army don't know what is mean by HUMANITY what they know is kill who ever asks the question the government is purely running based racist sinhala only motto.
Their government is made up of LIARS.HUMANS will never forgive Sri Lanka's activity against the HUMANITY.
Sri Lanka still lies to the whole world when they start the WAR they said Political Solution will be given to the Tamils But now its almost two years gone after the war still the government is not ready to any political solution still they want the Tamils as their slaves.still more than 600,000 Tamil people are in Internal Refugees.
The Army took most of the civilian lands for HIGHLY PROTECTED ZONES where no on is allowed.what the people will do because most of the Tamil's main job is agriculture
Editor's Note: The Institute on the Holocaust and Genocide in Jerusalem, which produces GPN, has a problematic history with reports of Tamil as victims of genocide at the hands of the Buddhist-majority government of Sri Lanka. We believed already years ago that genocide was committed against Tamil, but we also know the Tamil committed considerable genocide against the Sinhalese. Years ago the Institute learned first hand from a reputable Amnesty International worker, who had been personally present in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, over a weekend when government troops rounded up 2000 opponents of the regime according to carefully prepared lists of names, and took them out for execution. At another time, the Institute received well-prepared materials from the office of the Tamil in London spelling out genocidal attacks on their people and asking for our recognition of them, such as in our Encyclopedia of Genocide.
Big problem Number One with such information about the Tamil being massacred is that - like with so many victim peoples - the information reaches us without our ALSO receiving information about genocidal killing being carried out by the same genocidal victims. The Tamil definitely were not 'angels' in Sri Lanka. Among other things, in their attacks on the government, the Tamils were 'outstanding' in their employment of suicide bombing which they raised to new heights of 'achievement,' including their being the world's greatest organizer of suicide bombings executed by women. Indeed, the Tamil culture elevated the concept of sacrifice and dedication to one's people by women through suicide bombing to a level of fervor that has not yet been seen in other cultures.
